Duration: 4½ Hours
Commence
your tour with a short orientation drive through the
modern city of Istanbul, crossing the Galata Bridge
en route to the Golden Horn. The impressive Suleymaniye
Mosque, built by Turkish Architect Sinan and dedicated
to Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent, can be viewed

the Cruise Boat station where your private boat will
be waiting for your enchanted trip on the Bosphorus.
Running between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea,
both former lakes during earth's geological changes,
Bosphorus is twenty two miles long and considered
one of the most important waterways in the world.
The straits were former river valleys flooded by the
rising level of the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
In the early centuries, Bosphorus witnessed the passage
of many heroes, mythological figures, sea faring Greeks,
warlike tribes and armies. Jason and the Argonauts,
on his quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece, and the
Persian King Darius, who built a pontoon at the narrowest
point of the straits to cross to the European side,
are two of the famous people of antiquity who had
already sailed or crossed the Bosphorus. Marvel at
the architectural masterpieces lining the shores of
the channel, built during different historical periods,
enhancing the natural beauty of the Asian and European
shores. Sail past Dolmabahce Palace and Ciragan Kempinski
Palace, built on the European shore, glide under the
Bosphorus Bridge, your cruise continues past Beylerbeyi
Palace, the Anatolian Fortress and Kanlica, built
on the Asian shore. You will have the opportunity
for great photographs and the feeling of being "sandwiched"
between two continents, so close to both shores, is
totally overwhelming! After you meet your motorcoach,
you will be transferred back to the old city of Istanbul.
Here, the famous Grand Bazaar, with its four thousand
shops offering a wide variety of goods, ranging from
carpets, kilims, gold, leather goods and souvenirs,
offers a great choice of shopping. You will have free
time to browse through all this colorful display of
merchandise, and perhaps find the ideal buy you have
been looking for, before your return to the ship.
TAKE NOTE! Seasonal clothing and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

covered areas as well as open deck space. Rest rooms are also
available inside the Grand Bazaar area. Secret Treasures of Istanbul Air-Conditioned Motorcoach

National Road to reach the Royal Tombs of Vergina.
The small village where refuges from Asia Minor settled

of the Royal Tombs by Professor and Archaeologist
Andronicos. It was known with the name Aigais, was
the first capital of Ancient Macedonia, and was supposed
to be the burial place of all Macedonian Kings. The
Ancient Macedonian Tumulus has been completely excavated
and for the preservation of the Royal Tombs themselves
a subterranean structure, having the appearance of
an earth mound, was built in 1993 to encase and protect
the ancient monuments by maintaining a constant temperature
and humidity, both inseparable for the preservation
of the wall paintings. The tour includes a visit of
the newly completed exhibition bearing the founds
of all 3 Tombs, one of them famous as the Tomb of
King Philip the II, Father of Alexander the Great.
Make your way inside the subterranean structure, accompanied
by your guide and feast your eyes on some of the most
important objects, which once belonged to Philip II
- the King's shield adorned with ivory and gold, known
as the King's gold- trimmed iron breast plate, Gold
Diadems of unparalleled craftsmanship, the Golden
Wreath of oak leaves, the gold plated collar and the
Silver Burial Ums. Listen carefully, as your guide
explains how inside the tomb of King Philip, a Golden
Chest was discovered, containing the King's bones,
washed with wine and wrapped in purple cloth. After
a short coffee break, we will drive back to Thessaloniki. |
